Hybrid Finance will be paying out a fixed APY (Annual Percentage Yield) of 50,000 percent, meaning if you hold 1$ worth now, in a year you will hold $500 dollars worth! Impressive right? Well the answer to that is maybe, in the following article we will delve into APY’s and hopefully dispel a few misconceptions along with highlighting some underestimated secrets!
Annual Percentage Yield, a term we all hear everyday in Defi, due to elastic supply tokens it is now possible to ensure any APY you want, you can simply mint more and pay out any percentage you can dream up, however as we all learned with OlympusDAO forks, it’s no good if you have 100,000,000,% more tokens than you did yesterday if they aren't worth anything, in fact APY is only an useful metric if the token price is similar or greater than what you bought at, now yes, technically APY can recover any percentage loss given enough time, but that's not why we are in Defi, sure the bank will make me money but I don't want it when im 95 I want it now while I can still waste it properly. So for APY to mean anything we need to ensure the token value will be the same as when you bought.
